Março de 1953. Depois de 30 anos a governar a União Soviética sob um regime ditatorial, Joseph Estaline morreu. Nos dias imediatamente a seguir, os membros do comité do Partido Comunista, outrora fiéis seguidores do ditador, revelam a sua sede de poder. Nas ruas, durante as cerimónias fúnebres, centenas de milhares de pessoas surgem devastadas pela partida do ditador.
