O Fantasma da Liberdade

Em Toledo ocupada pelas forças napoleónicas, um soldado abraça uma estátua feminina numa igreja. Depois, exige que se abra o caixão. A história é contada por um criado num jardim público, que prefere ler em vez de tomar conta das filhas dos patrões, os Foucault. À noite, o senhor Foucault sofre de insónias, o que o leva a consultar o médico no dia seguinte. A partir daí, a história bifurca-se sucessivamente, num encadeado de sequências surreais e personagens autónomas, que criticam a moralidade e a sociedade.
