Depois de ser coroado Rei dos Escoceses, o lendário Robert "The Bruce", Rei da Escócia entre 1306 até sua morte, acaba por ser derrotado num ataque surpresa feito pelo rei de Eduardo I de Inglaterra, que o fez tornar-se num fora-da-lei. Foi um dos mais famosos guerreiros da sua geração, liderando a Escócia durante as Guerras de Independência contra a Inglaterra. Ele lutou decididamente para reconquistar o lugar da Escócia como reino independente, sendo lembrado hoje como herói nacional.
